Its Been Real CT 101 *dueces*

My ohhhh my how the semester has flew by. Just yesterday it felt like I was struggling to creating my first gif. No look at me! I have a fully operated personal blog and all. I couldn’t have asked for a better class this semester. It was fun learning new things in this class as well as interacting with classmates. One of my favorite things about this class is how Prof. Seslow made us utilize various desktop applications to create our work. An example of this is how the class was able to use giphy, imgur or photoshop to create a gif.  It goes to show that in the age of technology, there is always numerous ways to get things done, but it takes time to master all of them.

My favorite assignment I did in class was creating net art.

What I like most about it was that I was able to utilize one of my own photos as the subject and just get the glitch art off of the internet. I am definitely interested in making more of these in the near future. This assignment was also frustrating for me at the same time because I was not able to figure out how to use new hive or in order to join my photo and the glitch art together. Instead, I ended up using Photoshop which took me some time but it still got the job done.

All in all, I can not complain about the experiences I had in CT 101. I learned a lot from this class and plan to hone the skills I have learned too. As for the future of my website, its still debatable at this point. Though it is a great platform, my problem will be finding time out of my schedule to post on my blog. I will try and see how things go. Well it has been real CT 101.

P.S. You should definitely follow my photography journey on Instagram, and hmu if you are interested in collaborating after the semester is over. Good luck on finals.

My Attempt At Net-Art

Soooooo I do not where I should begin with my attempt at creating net art. What I would like to first say is that it definitely was a fun experience and Prof. Seslow and Prof. Smith who work in the Communications Technology Department in my College both did a great job with creating tutorials of net art for students to follow (the tutorials each of them made can be found if you click their names.) With finding an image and glitch art to use, the tutorials mentioned that I will have to utilize either   or newhive  as a platform to join the image and glitch art together. I followed the tutorial to a T and when it came time to joining the two images together using or newhive, that was when the mess began. I have no clue what happened but all I know is that I could not drop my image into the workspace. So I spent a couple hours brainstorming what I could do then it came to me that I could just use Photoshop instead. So I dragged both the image and the glitch art into Photoshop, adjusted the time frames accordingly. Because of that I was able to create this,

I am not 100% satisfied with it but I am content and plan to do more in the future as well.

Finals weeks is approaching kind of quickly now that I think about it. Just yesterday felt like the beginning of the semester and now there are only a few days left of class. Part of me is excited because I only have one more semester left until I graduate and the other part is somewhat anxious because finals are approaching and that means I have to study, which isn’t my favorite thing to do. Currently, I am trying to set-up some kind of schedule that will allow me to balance studying and working so I could make the best use of my time. As I am writing everything down I am staring at the paper like…

Though I might be backed up with work and everything I always seem to find a way to get things done and remain more than afloat in regards to my grades. By far I think that this semester was not my favorite at all. It feels like high school all over again. As I am at the tail-end of my degree I really don’t feel like doing anything at all. I am tired of early days and long nights. I just want to stay in my bed and sleep the day away. Once this semester and finals are over, I plan on going ghost.

I am going to finally have free time to go out and explore NYC and take photos. This semester has been very busy for me and I barely found time to take photos, so I am going to be excited when I get the chance to hold my camera again. Hopefully, nothing interferes. Wish me luck!!

EYE See You

One day while I was scrolling through Instagram I found this image below.

I liked it so much so that I decided to save it, in hope to recreate something similar one day. Being that I am not an artist who draws, I was hoping that it was something I could do using my camera. The way I pictured it in my head was that I will be able to get close to someone’s eye while they are looking at something else and take the picture. I tried it and it did not work at all. Thinking through the process I realized why it did not work and decided to go about it another way. I went on youtube and searched for tutorials and I came across a tutorial detailing how to join two photos together. It was a very helpful and basic tutorial to follow and it allowed me to create the image below in photoshop.

Being that one of my goals this year is to learn how to use photoshop more, it was definitely useful that the person who made the tutorial used photoshop. For both of the images, I downloaded them from Flickr. Flickr is a great tool to use when you want access to photos that you can download, adjust to your liking and re-post for others to see. For now I am going to work on perfecting recreating this image to make it look more realistic. Wish me luck!

Pleasure Reading…

For the New Year I had set a goal for myself to read and complete atleast one book every month. I did so because I am not much of a fan of sitting down and doing pleasure reading. Normally you would only catch me reading if I had an assignment on the book. I thought that this goal wasn’t so bad but boy was I wrong. I am theee months behind with reading. I got caught up with both school and work that I forgot to allocate time to pleasure reading. The first book I read, which everybody probably read when they were in highschool, was The Giver. The read wasn’t bad at all considering I saw the movie a couple years ago. Comparing the two, only minor changes we’re made. I chose The Giver because I wanted to ease myself into reading. I’m not one for picking up those 700 page Harry Potter books and reading nonstop, I like to start off slow. Being that I felt comfortable I decided to take it up a notch and try to finish a 600 page book in a month, which seemed feasible at first. However, when you add in school, work, and social life into the equation you realize that it is much more difficult than you anticipated. Currently owe the book back in about two weeks land I am only on page 230 or so. Wish me luck!!! Also if you know of any good books comment then below. Thanks in advance.

Le Bushwick Collective

Bushwick Collective is a great place to visit if you’re a tourist or if you just like to see various forms of art. The area is FULL of artwork, especially murals, graffiti, and stickers (lots and lots of stickers.) I honestly probably visit the area atleast once a month. This month I have been there three times already, and I was able to get some nice photos, such as this one,

As I was walking through the area I passed a street pole and saw this little drawing which I thought was unique. Bare in mind that there are large pieces of art work displayed on building walls but if you look at the street poles, fire hydrants, and etc you’ll find little drawings, inspirational quotes, and other things that’ll make you think to yourself. Unfortunately I don’t know of a map detailing where exactly the all of the pieces of art are located. So you’ll have to walk around looking for them, and as soon as you’re ready to leave to go home…you’ll find another area within the vicinity that you didn’t explore yet. My best advice would be to create your own map so you don’t visit the same area twice during the same day. Personally I don’t do that, I like to walk the same path each time and just add on to it every visit. I hope you go visit soon to see. When you do take lots of pictures!!

Tourist In My Own City

Do you ever visit a city you’re not familiar with and casually walk around and look at the attractions or just stroll through the area admiring the Mom & Pop stores, the art, and everything else? Yeah, well I do that too. The only difference is, I am doing so in my own city. Born and raised in the Big Apple there should be no excuse as to why one doesn’t know the difference between taking a train uptown versus taking a train downtown, as well as being able to know what train to take when the other isn’t running anymore. But somehow this is still something I struggled with when I first started exploring the city and occasionally struggle with today. For me atleast, being born in Queens, I didn’t care as much to travel to places other than those located in Queens or Long Island…since both areas are basically accessible by car (Brooklyn is as well but I tend to stay in Queens or visit Long Island). It wasn’t until I bought my first DSLR a couple years ago that I finally decided to get out of my shell and start exploring other boroughs more, plus I was getting tired of being in Queens so I said, “Why not?”  I started going to Brooklyn more frequently, visiting spots like Dumbo Park, the Brooklyn Bridge ( which I probably walked across over 100 times by now), and the Bushwick Collective. Right now I’m trying to explore the MAnhattan more in order to familiarize myself with the area  and to learn some of the train routes so I can answer questions actual tourists ask when trying to get places by subway.

Its Catch-up Season

If you are a current college student or previously attended college, you may be familiar with the Infamous month of April. It is that weird in-between stage where midterms just finished and there are less than 5 weeks left in the semester. The bright side is that spring break is finally here, so you know what that means… its Catch-up Season is here!!!!!

I have been neglecting CT101 not on purpose, but because I have been very preoccupied in my other classes that focus primarily on my major. During this spring break in order to catch-up, I plan on creating a minimum of one blog post per day. In these blog posts I will do assignments from the DS106 Assignment Bank as well as try and recreate images I find interesting, especially if I can use Photoshop as the application.

The catching up part about April is always stressful… for me at least. Part of me wants to buckle down and complete my assignments or study and the other part wants to go outside and hang with my friends. I end up trying to “balance”  the two but that never seems to work out quite right. This break I am going to try to actually allocate majority of my time to getting work done earlier in the break rather than waiting until the end of it. The key word here is try lol. Stay tuned for my next post, it’ll showcase one of  the several Photoshop activities I did while preparing to make my website.

My First Website Is Finally Up

For the past few weeks I have been working on side projects to post on my website, paying little attention to actually customizing the website.

The process of creating a website is fairly simple, the only problem I ran into which I believe everyone struggles with, was thinking of a domain name to use. The fact that you are unable to alter your domain name intimidated me. For a week I was thinking to myself that I should come up with this funny domain name, but that was a fail, so I just named the website after myself. Originally I wanted this website to focus on my photography, but I have decided to make it into a general blog. I will post random things that pop into my head and want to discuss, as well as create posts showing my journey as I try to learn how to use Photoshop and other Adobe applications (other than Lightroom since thats the one I am most familiar with.) I am still working on the aesthetics of the page so don’t pay too much attention to it. Hopefully by next week I will have all of the little kinks worked out to my liking. In the mean time, stay tuned for my next post.
